Reader Poll

Should I force myself to write even if nothing seems to be coming? I have a few ideas I'd like to pen, but every time I sit in front of the computer, I lose interest.

  • No.

You should not force yourself to write. Take a break until you regain an interest in writing. Likely, that will happen once the Mets set team records for most players on the DL and the Jets give up two picks in exchange for the privilege of trading Dewayne Robertson.

  • Well, now that all poolsters have responded...

I was referring to fiction. Sports posts I can still write.

  • I've faced a similar feeling.

Sometimes, forcing yourself to write can actually get the mind-juices flowing. Maybe what you start with may not be your best, but as the fingers fly across the keyboard, it will get easier and easier.

Writer's block is something you have to fight through, especially if the ideas are there.

You may also want to try something different. If a book is giving you trouble, try a screenplay. Maybe try something shorter to get your creative juices flowing. But writing begets more writing. The more you sit stagnant, the harder it will be to get back "into it."

    Just one man's opinion.
