Troubling News All Around

- First comes the news out of ultra-secret Jets camp that newly acquired savior running back Thomas Jones pulled up lame on Sunday at practice. This was followed by typical say nothings by Coach Mangini and Jones not being allowed to talk to the press.

The comes this evening's news that Agent Drew Rosenhaus said that the injury was a strained calf. That in it of itself - not so troubling. However, Rosenhaus stated that Jones is "week to week" and that Jones is confident he will be ready by the season opener.

If I'm a Jets fan (which, incidentally, I am) I'd be very nervous. For starters, injuries that are week to week, as opposed to day to day, are bad signs. Also, when you pull out your handy dandy list of Offensive Players the Jets Absolutely Cannot Afford to Lose, the top of that list goes like this:

1. Pennington
1A. Jones

The Jets need a healthy and productive Jones to take the pressure off Pennington and the throwing offense. The Jets don;t even have a third string rusher at this point. If Leon Washington cannot shoulder the entire load, the Jets are in big trouble.

- Speaking of the Jets and troubling, how can Darrelle Revis still be unsigned? It's asinine that this guy isn't in camp at this point. I have no more to say.

- Also troubling - the August, 2007 version of the New York Mets. This is NOT looking like a penant contender. 1-3 to the Marlins? The bullpen is just terrible right now. Minaya did not do enough at the deadline to shore it up either.

  • Good thing for you the Braves can't seem to put a serious run together.

  • It's insane - three teams in the east all playing decently ut no one stepping up. Mets need to win a serious with the Phils and the Braves to keep the heat off - that's not been happening.

  • The Braves keep winning series with the Mets but are inconsistent against other teams.

  • While Mets won series against the Padres and Cubs before folding against the braves and marlins. Someone will eventually go on a tear and put the other 2 teams away. My money is on the Mets - IF they can get healthy and Pedro gives them a spark in late august early sept

  • If I were them, I'd think about using Pedro as an old fashioned fireman out of the bullpen - think Mariano in '96. The NL is as bad as the NBA East, you're pretty lucky. And pretty hard to reach with the fancy new unlisted e-mail address. I've got good news, as does someone else who's finding you tough to find as well. Give me a call or an e-mail.
