Because Joe Is Too Busy

Well, someone has to mention the Rangers salary dump of Matt Cullen yesterday - traded back to the Carolina Hurricanes for essentially cap relief and spare parts. The Rangers save over 2 million dollars a season with this move. Cullen because expendable when the Rangers signed 2 free agent centers in the offseason - Gomez and Drury. All in all, a good move as Cullen never really found his game in New York (though, sadly, no one really cares. The Times gave this story about 2 inches of space in the paper this morning - and yes, I know this will come back and bite me in May when the Rangers are in the playoffs and I'm back ion the bandwagon).

- Nice win for El Duque last night, who continues to shine against weak, right hand heavy lineups. His pitches still dance. And his fastball actualy moved yesterday. He might even had beaten the Yankees with his stuff last night.

  • For the first time since I swapped it for SportsWorld, I miss my *old" blog

  • Please don't write about things you know nothing about, especially if it diverts attention from the work I'm doing at 6:15 a.m.

Cullen was an excellent #3 center and the Rangers have now taken the strongest position and created questions on the 3rd line and on the PK unit - which already was weakened by the inexplicable letting go of Jed Ortmeyer.

As for media coverage, there are plenty of media outlets that offer serious sports coverage, including hockey coverage. Among them are The Post, the Daily News, the Journal News, the Star Ledger and Newsday.

  • I never heard the words "serious" and the 'Post" menioned in the same sentence before. Congrats.

As for ortmeyer - please. a nice player and a dime a dozen in the NHL. It's always nice to get behind a nice guy, but I'm pretty sure Ortmeyer is replaceable. As for Cullen - you don't pay third line centers 3 million a year.

  • Cullen isn't making $3 million.

Ortmeyer is replaceable just like Dominic Moore is replaceable.

The Post's hockey coverage is excellent - Larry Brooks is excellent in his columns and covering the Rangers.

I am not looking to argue with you (I am middle of a long trial and have more important things to argue about), but you don't know what you're talking about, which is obvious since you get your hockey info from the Times.

  • Yes, he's making 2.8 million. YOU GOT ME!!!

iwatched hockey long enbough to understand what i am talking about. i took one season off, all of a sudden i can't possibly fathom a game that no one watches??

Yes, PLayers like Moore and Ortmeyer ARE a dime a dozen in the NHL. Every team has high energy guys who can't score. The key is to find high energy guys who CAN score.

The Post is a joke, cover to cover. Larry Brooks went from relevant to insane about 5 years ago.

Good luck with your important trial.

  • Of course you must be right that the Rangers easily replaced Moore last season and that their fourth liners and penalty killers will be as well as Ortmeyer, and that a third line center is easily replaceable.

Your bizarre analysis of the Rangers and your unfounded attack on the best hockey writer in the city reminds me of some other recent Elster gems, such as:

"Tom Glavine wants 300 wins bad. I have never seen him as focused as he is right now, as locked in."

"Is it me or is the Lou Piniella situation quickly developing into a repeat of the Larry Brown fiasco in New York? To review - older manager with tons of success comes to town, demands players play his way, starts changing lineups constantly, attacks his players in the press, loses his veterans in the process and the whole thing starts smelling like New York City garbage dumps in August... So the Sweet Lou situation is closely becoming an unmitigated disaster."

  • with the exception of last night, Glavine has been terrific. He was terrible last night, as was everyone else who toed the rubber. In the start before he was magnificent. At the time i MADE THE COMMENT IT WAS 100% TRUE. Last night had not happened yet.

as for Pinella - I was wrong. His fiery ways have ignited the team. I judged too quickly.

and, therein, lies the difference between you and me. I can admit when i wrong about something. You are too stubborn :)
