Speaking of Unmitigated Disasters

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Aaron Heilman, in the process of losing another game for the Mets. Maybe he needs to go down to New orleans to find his confidence. maybe he needs to become the long innings guy. What he should NOT be doing is trying to hold leads or tie games. He's terrible right now. No confidence and not ewnough velocity on his fastball to be effective. Hell, he's barely effective at 94, 95, he certainly is not getting the job done at 90, 91. And kudos to Mr. Endy Chavez for hitting into a double play with the bases loaded to kill a 7th inning rally.

What a mess.

    Enjoy the Stanley Cup!

  • Wait, the Stanley Cup championship ended last night? The playoofs have going on for the last 2 months? who knew

By Blogger Elster, at 9:10 AM

  • As usual, I was right about Riley and Stan VG - SVG got job and Heat got an extra pick.

Mets are imploding. They just blew two games and are letting the Phillies back into contention.

So that he doesn't end up like you, I watched the end of last night's Anaheim vs. Ottawa game and the ensuing celebration with my 2 1/2 year old son, so that he can learn about hockey and the Stanley Cup.

  • I'm sorry to tell you this Joe but by the time your son is old enough to seriously follow the sport, it may not exist anymore.

And it was no great prediction you made re: SVG. The Magic wanted him bad and Pat Riley is an evil man. That's exactly how it was going to play out.

The Mets are not "imploding" - they simply are suffering form too many injuries. They will be healthy for the second half of the season. Also, Willie has to stop pretending that Heilman can pitch in big spots. I'd rather see Burgois out there at this point.

  • Yeah I'm sure hockey is not going to exist in a few years. Dream on. I guess now that the Rangers are gone you're back to you're erstwhile "I Hate Hockey" chants.

Riley is evil? As a lawyer you should know that Riley's job is to further his team's best interests, which he did without any harm to SVG.

  • I don't hate hockey I NEVER hated hockey - I am just not as interested in it anymore. I don't understadn why this is so hard for you to fathom. Yes, the rangers were compelling in their playoff run. No, I will probably not follow the regular season next year.

Does this really make me a terrible person??

By Blogger Elster, at 2:27 PM

  • Speaking of Unmitigated Disasters,

    How about Scott Schoeneweis?

How about unnecessarily bringing in Billy Wagner in the 8th inning?

How about switching over to the NBA Finals?

By Blogger Joe Schick, at 10:07 PM

  • How about Ben (K) Johnson for Royce Ring and Heath (1.06 ERA but not an Omar fastball) Bell?

    Or replacing Bradford with Schoeneweis?

Or having more confidence in Schoeneweis and Heilman than Joe Smith.

By Blogger Joe Schick, at 10:12 PM

  • As for whether you are a terrible person, not at all. You seem like a very good father and husband.

You're just a terrible sports fan.

You also often write absurd things, like the idea that 90 years into its history, with profits and revenue highest in its history (albeit well below the other three major pro sports) leagues), hockey is about to disappear.

I don't think so. Hockey is not 'Lost' or The OC.

By Blogger Joe Schick, at 10:15 PM

  • Time will tell.

As for the Mets, I cannot talk about them right now. I need time to reflect on this Philly Sweep.

By Blogger Elster, at 9:19 AM

  • No need to reflect. A total disaster by the bullpen, wasting four solid starting performances in a row.

And why does Willie keep putting Schoeneweis in? The guy is a total disaster.

By Blogger Joe Schick, at 10:03 AM

  • Willie needs to do something to shake up the bullpen - maybe send Schoenweis down and bring back Burgos - There is still Feliciano to pitch to lefties and Burgo pitched pretty well in the end. Also need to have Heilman out of the mix as well - he is just a disaster.

I think the pen is just in a bad stretch and will come out of it. If now, Minaya will need to waste a trading chip at the deadline to make a move for a closer, like what happened last year with Hernandez.

same issue with the outfield - if the Mets don't get healthy soon, a chip which would otherwise be used for a pither might be forced on a 4th outfielder type.
